Have you ever thought about what you have been left with, with what you been through? I mean, we can say all day long… my problem and my situation left me hurt, left me stressed, left me confused, left me broken, they left me… period. But what about what you have been left with?
I was talking with a friend, like I always do, and we were discussing my past and my whole relationship problem, so I should say. And this particular friend been around me since high school so he’s been there through all my breakups and relationships, so he knows what I been through. I told him that God is allowing me to Himself for this season so He can show me what true love really looks like. (I thought I knew what true love looked like, but since I was called by name from God, He doesn’t want me to have this mediocre love of this world. He wants me to have the real thing.) The simplest things that are priceless, and I have taken them for granted with God. And He is reverting back to those things telling me remember, I am here when everyone walks away. Yes, I have taken that for granted. I know in the back of my mind, “God will be there for me!” But when people walk away from me, even when I was doing my best and they don’t think so, God is showing me remember, I am here. And I fall to my face to this day crying to Him for that very reason. God has shown me His love remains. God has shown me that he (my future husband) will follow His example of that kind of love.
So, what I been left with after a broken relationship? Character.
Because of the things that have been done to me, I have built consciousness of what I do to others, because I know what it feels like. My Bishop preached a sermon a couple of months ago called “Leftovers” (it’s about 25 minutes long if you have time) and one of the key points he spoke about was that sometimes, the leftovers are better than the actual day you made the dish, because that season has marinated more! People that have been pushed to the side, wrote off, said you wouldn’t and won’t do, can’t do, won’t ever amount to anything, abandoned – the leftovers – I believe are the most sincere people you will ever meet. I know this! I know some of those people. The ones that were pushed to the side, abandoned by their father, neglected by their mom… those that know what abandonment feels like. The “Leftover” people. Those are the ones that have the most heart when it comes to other people. Used the right way, they took from it and used it to help make them a better person.
After Jesus fed the five thousand by performing the miracle using two fish and five loaves of bread, in John 6:12 He told the disciples “…Gather up now the fragments (the broken pieces that are left over), so that nothing may be lost and wasted.” (AMP). That’s really a shouting moment! Jesus uses everything! The parts that are workable, and the parts that are not workable! The parts that are lovable, and the not so lovable parts! The parts that are seasoned good, and the parts that will be left over! Nothing will be wasted! No person will be wasted! No area in your life that you feel is unusable, WILL-BE-WASTED! God loves you that much to even use the abandonment to help you! When you have a relationship with Christ, He promises nothing you go through will be wasted. Meaning, all the bad you ever endured, all the stuff you had to go through, all the stuff you are going through – are not just pushed to the side and just called ‘a bad experience’. No! God even uses that and turns it for your good!
We all know the familiar passage in Genesis, when Joseph’s brothers sold him into slavery in Egypt because of their jealousy. Remarkably, Joseph becomes one of Pharaohs highest officials. When they finally came back to Joseph apologetic, he assured them in 50:20, “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.” Joseph was a leftover… but look how God used him!
Don’t ever write off yourself because of what you been through… allow God in your life and then allow Him to use that for His Glory!
