One Day at a Time

As I was talking to God one evening studying and praying… God revealed to me this comparison of how He maneuvers through our lives. Once you decide to want to live holy, obedient and live for Christ, and as I have mentioned before, it is not a one day process. It is not a one month process. It is not a one year process. It is an everyday CHOICE when you wake up. Choice to deny our fleshly desires, choice to deny our will to want to be right, choice to choose what’s right to do, choice to build your relationship with Jesus by reading the Word of God. So God began to speak to my spirit that night and tell me “I had to work on you piece, by piece, by piece and I am still working on you piece, by piece, by piece.” And just when He said that, the illustration of plate jugglers came to mind.

As we go through our journey in Christ, God guts out things that are not like Him, that are not in His image. One plate might be a nasty attitude. One plate might be your unforgiveness of your past. One plate might be sexual immorality. One plate might be drinking. One plate might be intoxicants. One plate might be anger. One plate might be pride. One plate might be envy. We have all these “plates” in our lives that God needs to work on, so He begins spinning one by one.. area by area… the junk in our lives that needs to be chiseled off.

In bible expedition at T.R.W.C. one evening, we came across the topic, The Law of God. And simply put, we are made in His image. With that said, He puts up a mirror to us when we accept Him. When we see areas in our lives that don’t match up, we now see what we need to work on. But sometimes we find ourselves trying to fix all the problems in one day, which is not ideal. Why? Because A) We are humans, and we are then trying to do it on our own strength and B) Knowing that we had years of stacking and stacking our sin, overnight ‘successes’ most of the time does not unlearn what you already kicked into habit. It just doesn’t work that way! And then, we find ourselves frustrated and upset because we think God is not working in our lives. And then we quit.

I’ve heard of preachers and pastors talking about how many people they saved in one service or doing mission work overseas. But I question, were they really ‘saved’ or they just confessed to God that night because of the emotion during the service? True deliverance, saving, breakthrough and even a repentive life comes after the confession you want to be saved. “Unless your heart fully believes what you confess, you will never see manifestation of your confession.” My Bishop was head on that even though we confess, we have to also believe in our heart. Paul said in Romans 10:9 “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” (more on true repentance here.)

How do we believe in our hearts? Well, God is an ‘action’ God I like to say. We think of that verse like Yeah, I know Jesus was resurrected and He died on the cross and rose 3 days later. No. Belief requires action in His eyes. Of course God sees your heart, but out of the heart flows your actions. Luke 6:45 “A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.” So, what actions are you showing to Him that you want to live this Christian life? It’s not overnight with Him, but it is the one day at a time CHOICE to.

Don’t let yourself be intimidated that being a Christian is an overnight success. Because like with majority of us, it wasn’t. There are some plates still spinning in our lives. There are some plates still left to be spun. Or at least I can speak for myself. I am not where I want to be, but thank God I am not where & who I used to be.

Be encouraged & be strong!
